Holmfirth Festival of Folk – what we are all about.

Holmfirth Festival of Folk grew from the ashes of Holmfirth Folk Festival in 2005 and has become an excellent community based festival which draws in a large local audience in addition to the usual ‘folkies’ who travel around the country visiting the many folk festivals that take place throughout the year.

It is organised by a group of locals who put in lots of time and effort to make it the success that it has become. It depends on the good will of the local people and local businesses and it has become one of the key events in the town.

The events take place in the local pubs and on the streets. The vast majority of the events are free although audiences are ‘encouraged’ to contribute to the collection buckets! The only paid events are the concerts in the Old Bridge function room and the Ceilidh. Tickets were introduced mainly as a means of controlling numbers.

Because of the nature of the venues we don’t go for ‘big names’ but be assured that you will get quality. The response to the acts in 2008 was very favourable and we aim to repeat the variety and quality in 2009.

The Picturedrome is a large venue that is already well established on the gig circuit. Events there are programmed as part of the festival but they are ticketed and run separately to the less formal events and we have no direct involvement in them.

So if that is the kind of festival you like then we would love to see you between May 8 – 10 th. If you are an artist wanting to perfom for us then you know the situation but please be advised that we have already had far more requests than could possibly be accommodated in one weekend.
